Texas Thieves
"Forced Vacation" Full-length debut release from this San Francisco-based band is part of a new post-SF sk8core/new scene movement - 100% no bullshit punk rock music. The 10 tracks of "Forced Vacation" provide the listener with a sonic glimpse into the rebellious mindset of this movement. A straight-up punk juggernaut in the making. For fans of DI and the Adolescents. SSM CD6905 REVIEWS: "I reviewed these guys about three and half years ago. They had a three song promo out caleed "Lie, Cheat, Steal." It was pretty good skatepunk. This release has two of the songs from the promo. Both "Crucifixes are for Kids" and "Born to Bleed" are on here. They were re-recorded with a bit more power. I see these guys close to where their labelmates The Cliftons are. Kinda The Faction meets Motorhead. Or Agent Orange playing Black Flag songs. Very talented guys here. This SuperSpeedway label is getting a group of great bands together. Expect greatness from these guys in the near future. There's 10 tracks and kickass four horsemen art inside. If you skate and you like punk, then here you are." -CONCUSSION MAGAZINE The Texas Thieves deliver classic '80s SoCal punk as if they fired up the scene with DI, Agent Orange, MIA, Bad Religion, and Social D way back when - pretty amazing considering they're a current band based in the Bay Area (I think their name simply refers to the evil Bush empire, but I could be overthinking it). If you're one of those people who owns every Posh Boy and Frontier release but refuses to buy a record pressed post-1986, this may change your mind." -SHREDDING PAPER MAGAZINE "This is really good stuff. Pop songs that sound like something new and make me want to listen over and over. Its about time someone took this genre and put something out that may me take some notice. The production has some great stereo separation that made me realize how flat and crappy-sounding the last disc I listened to was." -Punk Planet Magazine "Fuck yeah! Skate punk the way I remember it!!!!! I don't know what all this shit passing off as skate punk is these days but this is the shit I'm talking about! This represents everything great about the scene, it's fun, it's belligerent, it's got a great pace...does that remind you of anything? Oh yeah, skating!!! Hey, get this in your ears when you ride and you'll start seeing what we're all about . . . " - No Front Teeth www.nofrontteeth.co.uk "Texas Thieves come from the new sound that is creeping up out of San Francisco, kinda pub rock-skater joy, yet staunchly punk, its good time punk rock. The sound doesn't depress you, and it doesn't make you too terribly aggressive, what it really does is get you in the pit and dance. The debut album from Texas Thieves is nothing short of a beer-soaked skate-punk album, that will rock your ass completely off. There are ten tracks on "Forced Vacation" that never once let up off of the accelerator! From the first song "Dying Of Stress" to the last "Rat Trap," you can feel the pit starting to form around you. Texas Thieves bring to mind old skool Black Flag and at times, the Thieves bring an almost pop sound to their mix of punk. You won't miss it, because that's about the time the chant along choruses show up. "Forced Vacation" is a solid debut for the band, and I can only imagine what their live shows are like, especially after listening to "Pickler," and its lyric "You can't hold your liquor, You're a Pickler." It's gotta be a non-stop drunken orgy, my kinda show!!" -HUSSIESKUNK.COM "San Francisco's Texas Thieves remind me of why I started liking punk in the first place. This band reminds of me of my beloved D.I. with songs titles like "Trash on the Beach," Crucifixes are for Kids," "Dying of Stress." The band is seasoned cool and hammer hard. Foz's vocals come across like regular guy snarling in a cheese-eating grin disguise. The music is simple and comfortably loose with spells of rocking like a hurricane. FORCED VACATION is a sweet punk-rock finger and wedgie. I love this disc." -SKRATCH MAGAZINE Track Listing: 1. Dying Of stress 2. Today 3. Trash On the beach 4. Born To Bleed 5. Pickler 6. Hang My Head 7. Abandoned Cars 8. Crucifixes Are For Kids 9. Nowhere 1o. Rat Trap Texas Thieves: Foz (Vocals), John Collins (Bass), Johnny Bouldt (Guitar), Pete Koff (Drums) |
